Belgian Golf League announces exciting changes for 2024 season!

The Belgian Golf League (BGL) has wrapped up the 2023 season, and it's time to reflect on our journey so far and unveil the exciting changes we have in store for the 2024 edition.

"I want to express my gratitude for your hard work and dedication throughout the year in leading your teams," said Thibault De Saedeleer. "This year, we decided to implement some changes to enhance certain aspects such as playing time and competitiveness. After various discussions, analyses, and self-reflection, we must be honest and admit that these changes have somewhat diverted us from our core values, namely: Team spirit, Competition, & Fun."

As we conclude the 2023 season with new champions, promotions, and relegations, BGL is excited to share the broad outlines of its plan for 2024, designed to realign the league with its core values and main goals.

NEW Format for 2024, Back to Our DNA

"The plan for the 2024 season is set to create more excitement, motivation, and camaraderie within a modern and team spirit approach. The commitment to bringing together the best players under each club's colors to foster a sense of team spirit is more critical than ever. We want to create an even closer bond between players on the same team". explained Thibault De Saedeleer.

For 2024, the league will maintain its division systems and teams (4 players for men and 2 players for women). However, it's the format that is evolving.

Men's League:

  • 4 players per team
  • 2 players from each team play together (2 flights of 4 players)
    • The first 9 holes are a Foursome Match Play
    • The last 9 holes are 2 Single Match Play (Teams can strategically place their players, but the best handicap plays against the best handicap in the flight for the Singles).
  • Each match between 2 clubs will be worth 6 points.

Women's League :

  • 2 players per team
  • 2 players from each team play together (2 flights of 4 players)
    • The first 9 holes are a Foursome Match Play
    • The last 9 holes are 2 Single Match Play (The best handicap plays against the best handicap in the flight for the Singles).
  • Each match between 2 women's clubs will be worth 3 points.

"We are excited about these changes and believe they will bring us closer to our original values of teamwork, competition, and enjoyment," added Thibault De Saedeleer.

BGL is currently working on the schedule for the 2024 season and will be announcing registration details soon.

The league looks forward to an exhilarating 2024 season, where the flourishing team spirit among all the clubs will be a hallmark of the year.

Wishing you a fantastic year ahead!
